Mt.Gox Legal Privacy Policy

This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains how Mt.Gox Legal (“MGL,” “MtGoxLegal,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information of the users of the MtGoxLegal.com website (the “Website”) or when you otherwise interact with us or receive a communication from us.
Please note that this Privacy Policy only applies to the Website, and not to websites, applications, operating systems, or other platforms of third parties (collectively, “Third-Party Platforms”), even if such Third-Party Platforms are linked to or accessible from the Website. Each Third-Party Platform will have its own data collection and usage practices, and may use their own cookies, web beacons, and other technology to collect information from you. MGL is not responsible for the content or practices of any Third-Party Platforms and, if you choose to visit or use them, you do so at your own risk.
How does MGL collect data about me?
MGL collects data about you:
- when you browse the Website
- when you create and use an account on the Website
- when you post or otherwise participate on the Website
- when you contribute or donate funds
MGL collects data when you use the Website, whether you use the Website using a web browser on your own computer or mobile devices.
MGL does not buy or otherwise receive data about you from data brokers.
What We Collect
MGL collects data about visits to forums.
When you visit the Website, whether you have an account or not, the Website uses cookies, server logs, and other methods to collect data about which pages you visit and when, and the devices used to access the Website.
MGL uses data about how you use the website to:
- diagnose and debug technical errors
- defend the Website from abuse and technical attacks
- compile statistics on forum and topic popularity
- compile statistics on the kinds of software and computers or devices visitors use
MGL usually stores data about how you use the forum in identifiable form for about 7 calendar days. In special circumstances, such as extended investigations about technical attacks, MGL may preserve log data longer, for analysis. MGL stores aggregate statistics about use of the forum, but those statistics don’t include data identifiable to you personally.
MGL collects information about account data.
Most Website services require a user account, such as posting or replying to topics or editing Website wiki pages.
To sign up for a user account, MGL requires a username and an email address. MGL uses your account data to identify you on the Website, and to create pages specific to you, such as your profile page. Most Website services such as the forum or wiki is access-restricted, and MGL makes your username available to everyone who can access the access-restricted areas of the Website, according to the Website administrator’s configuration. The email address may be by the user after registration sign-up in their accounts profile settings page.
MGL uses your email address to:
- notify you about posts and other activity on the forum
- reset your password and help keep your account secure
- contact you in special circumstances related to your account
- contact you about legal requests, like DMCA takedown requests
- contact you for informational updates related to Website topics
You may provide personally identifiable information such as your real name, a short biography, your location, or a photo of yourself on your account profile settings page. MGL makes this data available to users with access to access-restricted areas of the Website. You don’t have to provide this additional information, and you can erase or edit it from your account profile settings page.
MGL stores your account data as long as your account remains open.
MGL collects Transactional Information
Our Third-Party payment processor (e.g. Stripe) may collect certain information from you including your email address, last four digits of your payment card (if applicable), expiry date of your payment card (if applicable), and transaction date, for the purposes of processing payment transactions for MGL.
When you first sign up, or if you send donations to MGL, you may provide such information our Third-Party payment processor (e.g. Stripe). Except for the email address and payment, MGL does not store any payment transaction processing information. Other Information
You may choose to provide other information directly to us such as over email, phone, forum post, wiki page, or other form of communication with us.
MGL collects data about posts and other activity on the forum.
MGL collects the content of your posts, plus data about bookmarks, likes, and links you follow in order to share that data with other Website users permitted to see it.
MGL also collects data about private messages that you send through the forum. MGL makes private messages available to senders and their recipients, and also to forum administrators.
MGL stores your posts and other activity as long as your account remains open.
MGL may share aggregated information with Third Parties (e.g. Tokyo District Court or appointees, media publications, non-member creditors, etc.), such as topic or post summaries, poll outcomes or vote decisions that have taken place on the Website.
MGL will not share your email, username, IP address, or other individual data without your explicit consent, unless required to disclose information in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.
How can I make choices about data collection?
You can make choices about how data is used for your account. You can see your account data at any time by visiting your account profile page. Your account page also lists your posts and other activity on the forum. Your account activity page also includes a link to download all of your posts in standard comma-separated values format.
MGL does not respond to the Do Not Track HTTP header.
Where does MGL store data about me?
MGL is based in Sweden. The Website is hosted on servers provided by Third Party cloud providers in multiple jurisdictions, such as the United States and Japan.
Information Deletion
You can change your account data at any time by visiting the profile settings page for your account. Website administrators can erase and anonymize accounts. Backups are securely stored for less than 12 months. When you edit posts, MGL will keep all versions of your posts unless you request your account to be deleted. Website administrators can view old versions of forum or wiki posts unless you request your account to be deleted. Account deletions along with posts associated with the account may be initiated by emailing [email protected].
Data Subject and Consumer Information Requests
MGL respects privacy rights under Regulation (EU) 2016/679, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Information that GDPR requires MGL to give can be found throughout this privacy notice.
Requests for a copy of the information MGL has about your account—including EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) data subject access requests and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) consumer information requests—can be sent via email to [email protected] from the email address you have verified with your user account. MGL does not discriminate against users for exercising their rights under data protection laws to make requests regarding their personal information.

Changes to This Policy
MGL may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will let you know by revising the date at the top of the policy. If we make a change to this policy that, in our sole discretion, is material, we will provide you with additional notice (such as creating a post on the Website forum, the front page of the Website or sending you a notification or email). We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy whenever you access or use our Website or otherwise interact with us to stay informed about our information practices and the ways you can help protect your privacy. By continuing to use our Website after Privacy Policy changes go into effect, you agree to be bound by the revised policy.
